Day 2
Cooking, Tailoring & Village Life

Late Morning
Start custom tailoring. Visit Yaly Couture or A Dong Silk in the Ancient Town. Choose fabrics, get measured, discuss designs. Hoi An's tailors can create anything — suits, dresses, ao dai, coats — in 24-48 hours at a fraction of Western prices.

Day 3 — The Day We've Been Waiting For

Pam's 60th Birthday

A day as extraordinary as the woman herself
✦ Sunday, July 12, 2026 ✦
Morning — A Golden Awakening
Sleep in. No alarms. When she wakes, the villa is transformed: champagne on ice, a cascade of tropical flowers, and a beautiful birthday cake waiting. Sixty candles. One unforgettable moment. Breakfast in the villa — no rush, nowhere to be.
Late Morning — Renewal
Couples spa journey at Heart of the Earth Spa. The signature birthday treatment — begin with a Vietnamese herbal bath, followed by a full-body massage with local essential oils, finishing with a rejuvenating facial. Two hours of pure bliss in the resort's open-air spa pavilions surrounded by lotus ponds.
Afternoon — Villa Time
Pool villa afternoon. Your private plunge pool. A good book. Fresh fruit and cocktails. This is Pam's day — every minute exactly as she wants it.
Late Afternoon — Creating Magic
Private lantern-making workshop. A Hoi An artisan comes to the resort to teach you the centuries-old craft of silk lantern making. Create your own lanterns to take home — a luminous keepsake from this luminous day.
Evening — The Main Event
✦ Private Birthday Dinner on the Beach ✦

As the sun sets over the East Sea, a private dining setup awaits on Ha My Beach. A personal chef prepares a custom Vietnamese tasting menu — course after course of the finest central Vietnamese cuisine, paired with champagne and local wines. The table is surrounded by hundreds of silk lanterns, cascading flowers, and flickering candles in the sand. The sound of gentle waves. A sky full of stars. Just the two of you.

Night — A Wish on the Water
🌈 Lantern Release on the Thu Bon River

The evening ends at the Thu Bon River in the Ancient Town. Write your wishes and dreams on paper lanterns and set them gently onto the water. Watch them float downstream, carrying 60 years of beautiful memories and lighting the path to everything that comes next. This is the Hoi An tradition — and tonight, it belongs to Pam.

“Here's to the woman who makes every room brighter, every moment richer,
and every day an adventure. Happy 60th, Pam.”

Day 4 — Birthday Double Feature
Praveen's 58th Birthday 🎂
Monday, July 13, 2026

Tailor fitting. Return to the tailor for your first fitting. Adjustments are made on the spot — the precision is remarkable.
Midday
Private boat trip on the Thu Bon River. A wooden sampan cruise upstream, past fishing villages, coconut palm islands, and rice paddies. See a different side of Hoi An from the water.
Afternoon
Birthday lunch riverside. A celebratory meal at a riverside restaurant in the Ancient Town. Then beach and pool time at the resort — the birthday boy's choice.
Evening
Dinner at Vy's Market Restaurant or La Sen. Vy's is a Hoi An institution — an open-air food market concept with live cooking stations. La Sen offers refined Vietnamese fine dining.
Day 5
Final Treasures & Farewell
Tuesday, July 14, 2026
Morning
Final tailor pickup. Collect your completed garments — the tailors will have everything pressed and packaged beautifully. Last-minute adjustments if needed.

Afternoon
Last stroll through the Ancient Town. Pick up any remaining souvenirs — silk lanterns, lacquerware, Vietnamese coffee. Savor one final banh mi from Banh Mi Phuong (Anthony Bourdain's favorite).
Evening
Farewell dinner. A final evening in this magical town. Raise a glass to the birthdays celebrated, the memories made, and the lanterns that still glow on the river.

Tailoring Guide

Hoi An is the tailoring capital of the world. With 400+ tailor shops, you can have custom clothing made in 24-48 hours at extraordinary quality. Here's how to make the most of it.

Yaly Couture
Premium — Best for suits, dresses, formal wear

The gold standard of Hoi An tailoring. Higher prices than most shops, but impeccable quality. Multiple fittings. Excellent fabric selection from Italian, English, and Thai mills. Ships internationally if needed.

A Dong Silk
Excellent — Best for silk garments, ao dai

Beautiful silk work, especially for traditional Vietnamese ao dai and evening wear. Slightly more affordable than Yaly. Great reputation for women's clothing. Lovely showroom.

Tailoring Tips
  • Start on Day 2 — this gives you 2-3 days for fittings and adjustments
  • Bring reference photos — pictures of exactly what you want are more effective than descriptions
  • Feel the fabric — quality varies enormously. Ask for 100% silk, cashmere, or Italian wool
  • Get at least 2 fittings — first fitting for shape, second for final adjustments
  • Budget guide: Custom suit $150-400, silk dress $80-200, ao dai $60-120, shirt $25-50
  • Don't over-order — quality beats quantity. 2-3 perfect pieces beats 10 mediocre ones

Dining in Hoi An

Hoi An has its own distinct cuisine, different from Hanoi or Saigon. These dishes exist only here. Don't miss them.

Morning Glory
Central Vietnamese
By celebrity chef Trinh Diem Vy. The best place to try every Hoi An specialty in one sitting. Roof terrace overlooking the river. Book ahead.
The Field
Farm to Table

Vy's Market Restaurant
Street Food Market
Open-air food market concept with live cooking stations. Try everything — wonton, cao lau, banh mi, white rose. Fun, lively atmosphere.
La Sen
Vietnamese Fine Dining
Refined Vietnamese cuisine in a beautiful heritage house. Tasting menus showcase the best of central Vietnam. Excellent cocktail bar.
Banh Mi Phuong
Street Food Legend
Anthony Bourdain called this "the best banh mi in the world." Tiny street stall, massive flavors. 25,000 VND (~$1). Essential eating.
Nam Hai Restaurants
Resort Dining
Three on-site restaurants at the Four Seasons — Vietnamese, Japanese-Peruvian, and Mediterranean. Beach bar for sunset cocktails.

Birthday Arrangements Checklist

Everything that needs to be arranged in advance for July 12. Coordinate with Four Seasons concierge 2-3 weeks before arrival.

  • Birthday cake — Order from the hotel pastry chef. Specify flavor, decoration, and dietary needs. Request 60 candles (or a tasteful numbered candle set).
  • Champagne & flowers — Arrange for the villa to be set up before she wakes. Specify flower preferences (roses, orchids, tropical). Champagne chilled and ready.
  • Couples spa booking — Book Heart of the Earth Spa for late morning. Request the signature journey (bath + massage + facial). Confirm duration ~2 hours.
  • Lantern-making workshop — Book a private artisan session at the resort for late afternoon. Confirm they bring all materials. 1-1.5 hours.
  • Private beach dinner — This is the centerpiece. Coordinate with the hotel's events team: location on beach, table setup, lantern/flower/candle decor, personal chef, custom tasting menu, champagne pairing. Confirm timing (sunset ~6:30 PM in July).
  • Thu Bon River lantern release — Arrange transport to Ancient Town after dinner. Purchase paper lanterns (or have hotel arrange). Best at 8:30-9:00 PM when the river glows.
  • Photography — Consider hiring a local photographer for candid shots during the beach dinner and lantern release. Hoi An has excellent photographers.
  • Special gift — Have something meaningful waiting at the dinner table or back at the villa. Sixty years deserves something unforgettable.
